From The Gambia to the Diaspora: How Tas Tas Jewelry Was Born

Why Do We Do What We Do?  Why Healing?

As the CEO of Tas Tas, my vision has always been rooted in one simple intention: to help.  Art has always been a powerful force in my life, but I often asked myself, How can I connect my art to something greater? How can creativity become a bridge that uplifts others? That question followed me all the way to The Gambia in 2021.

A Journey of Discovery

While traveling through local markets and museums in The Gambia, I immersed myself in the vibrant artistic culture. I was searching—not just for beautiful pieces—but for connection. I wanted to understand how I could collaborate with artists on the continent and create meaningful opportunities that extended beyond borders. Clarity came in the most unexpected place. On a spontaneous visit to the Monkey Park, I met an artist at the entrance. What began as a casual conversation quickly became something deeper. He was incredibly talented, and I was inspired. I initially considered purchasing his work to promote it in the United States and help expand his exposure. But something told me that wasn’t the true direction. Then he showed me a copper bracelet. As he explained the meaning behind it, something clicked. Copper has long been associated with healing and wellness. I remembered seeing similar bracelets worn by members of my own family. Coming from a lineage of medical professionals, I felt a powerful connection between heritage, healing, and artistry. That was the moment the journey began. Follow me to see how the journey was developed.
